Bauchi NMA condemns killing of member’s son by kidnappers, calls for justice

The Bauchi state Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has condemned the gruesome murder of the son of one of its members by suspected kidnappers in the state.

The association while expressing dismay over the dastardly act in a press statement in Bauchi on Monday said called on the security agencies to unravel the situation surrounding the heinous crime.

“NMA Bauchi received with shock the news of the gruesome murder of the son of our member by criminal elements in Bauchi Metropolis on Saturday, April 11, 2020.” The statement which was jointly signed by Dr Lamaran Makama Dattijo and Dr Abdulmajid Yakubu Ahmad Chairman and Assistant Secretary of the association respectively said.

The statement added that: “At this trying period when we are battling the Covid-19 pandemic in the state, it is worrisome that our member who is active in the field is forced to bear the distress of kidnap and subsequent killing of his son”.

“It is worthy to note that the deceased a 15-year old son our member was forcefully taken from his father’s house in broad daylight and was subsequently murdered despite payment of ransom”, the association decried.

It also noted with grave concern that some doctors have received messages of threat in recent past.

“It is depressing to note that the community we serve has now become a source of threat to the lives of our members and their families”, the association lamented.

The statement which commended the security agencies for apprehending the suspected persons charged them to leave no stone unturned to unravel the circumstances surrounding the heinous crime.

“As association we are watching with a keen interest in how events unfold and expect that justice will be done in this matter”, the statement said.

The association called on its members to, as sworn under its Hippocratic Oath, continue to render services to the society in this trying time.

“If doctors have to worry about threats to their lives and those of their family members, it will greatly hamper our operations. We, therefore, call on the authority to do all within its power to ensure doctors feel safe to contribute to the development of the state”. The statement noted.

The association applauded the courage and sacrifices of its members especially those in the battle frontline against the two deadly diseases of Lassa fever and Covid-19 despite numerous challenges.

The statement assured that NMA will continue to protect the interest of its members as they discharge their responsibilities.

WikkiTimes recalls that the son of Mohammed Auwal Suleiman killed by suspected kidnappers, some of whom were already arrested by the police.
