Bauchi PRP hits Governor Bala again, says 19 constituencies lack representation in state Assembly

The Bauchi State chapter of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has criticised Bauchi State Governor for undermining democracy by “leaving 19 constituencies without representation” in the state Assembly.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Bauchi, the party says 19 constituencies of the state house of assembly lack representation, which it says was as a result of impunity that marred the inauguration of the state law makers.

The party Chairman, alhaji Shehu Barau Ningi said the party’s position was in tandem with the position of the House of Representatives’ adhoc committee mandated to investigate the leadership tussle that surrounded the emergence of the Speaker Abubakar Suleiman.

“We equally wish to call on the Governor of Bauchi state His Excellency Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to tour the path of honour and remember that the people of Bauchi state had massively voted for him during the 2019 Gubernatorial Election without recourse to partisan party consideration to salvage them from the misgovernance of the last administration.” The statement read in a part.

WikkiTimes reports that the election of the Bauchi Assembly Speaker was marred by controversy and uncertainty following the emergence of two speakers in two parallel sittings conducted by the warring members.

The first Speaker was elected by 11 out of the 31 members of the Assembly, 9 of whom were from the ruling PDP, one NNPP member and the APC member from Ningi, Abubakar Suleiman who later emerged as the Speaker.

In the midst of the leadership upheaval, the House of Representatives called on the State Governor Bala Mohammed to reissue a new proclamation letter that will nullify the earlier decision of the governor, a call that appears unfavorably to the administration.
