In what seems to be a resurfacing of the notorious Kalare boys in Gombe ahead of the 2023 general elections, the thugs’ group engaged men of the Nigeria Police Force in the state.
The thugs numbering about fifty blocked the road linking the central roundabout carrying dangerous weapons and dispersing innocent people.
ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, Police Public Relations Officer Gombe Command in a statement said the incident happened on Saturday around Jekadafari quarters of Gombe, the state capital.
“On the 24th of September 2022, the Command tactical teams “coded”999 responded to a distress call by a good samaritan that a gang of thugs (Kalare boys ) numbering about fifty (50) from Abacha road and Bala Mai Kwalta Street, Jekadafari quarters Gombe, armed themselves with a machete, daggers, sticks and other dangerous weapons blocked the roads linking to central roundabout terrorising members of the public.
“On receipt of the distress call, the teams responded immediately, moved to the scene of a crime and made effort to disperse the hooligans with the use of minimal force, but declined by the gang which resorted to attacks on the team which prompted the use of additional force on them”, the statement read in parts.
The PPRO as a result, one of the thugs (kalare boys) and a woman who was a passerby sustained injuries and are presently responding to treatment at Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe.
The command warns that all criminally minded individuals or groups against all forms of hooliganism and thuggery before during and after the electioneering activities in the state and any erring individual or groups will be dealt with accordingly.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ishola Babatunde Babaita reassures the Citizens of Gombe State to go about their lawful businesses without any fear of threat or molestation of any kind as the command is on top of the situation to ensure that where ever the miscreants are hiding will be flushed out, arrested and arraigned before the Court of competent jurisdiction,” he said.
