Abubakar Bagudu Usman, a 50-year-old one-time Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Kebbi State governor, recently turned down a nearly million naira appointment offer, citing his age as a reason.
In a letter dated September 27, 2022, and addressed to the Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Babale Umar Yauri, the former aide said he believes there are many young men who can do better than him.
Rejecting the offer, Usman said based on personal reasons, he can not accept the offer. According to him, he has served the government on many occasions dating back 20 years.
“However, due to some personal reasons, I cannot accept the appointment, therefore I wish to withdraw the earlier letter of acceptance submitted to the Director of Executive Council,” the letter partly reads.
Usman who said he did not solicit for the offer added his numerous engagements are enough to sustain him without necessarily blocking the chances of many youths who are eager to get the offer.
“I firmly believe that there are several young persons capable of taking this appointment more than a 55 years old man,” he noted.
WikkiTimes recalls that Usman was a Senior Special Assistant to the Kebbi State Governor on Mobilization and Public Enlightenment from 2002 to 2004, then SSA Media and Publicity from 2004 to 2005 and lastly SSA Special Duties from 2005 to 2006.
