Student Murdered Over Football Argument, 14 Arrested in Gombe Varsity

A deadly altercation at the Federal University Kashere in Gombe State has resulted in the murder of Abdussamad Musa, a level two student of Criminology and Security Studies.

The incident occurred outside his off-campus apartment, where he was stabbed in the neck by fellow students following a heated argument over a football discussion.

According to eyewitnesses, the dispute began earlier in the day, but escalated when a group of students returned to the scene, leading to a confrontation that ended in tragedy.

A friend to the deceased, Aliyu Usman, from the department of Political Science told WikkiTimes that the argument began over a football dispute which” the students dispersed but later another group returned which made the area noisy. People were coming out from their residences and upon coming out, it led to a confrontation where Abdulsamad was stabbed around his neck.”

The Students Representative Council of the University (SRC) has condemned the incident and vowed to pursue justice, working closely with security authorities to ensure the perpetrators face punishment.

“We are committed to ensuring that the culprits are brought to book,” said SRC leader Abdulra’uf Auwal. “The case is currently with the security officials, and we will follow up to ensure justice is served.”

The university’s Chief Security Officer, Mukhtar Zailani, confirmed that the suspects, including gang leader Iliya Mshelia and 13 others, have been apprehended and are in custody.

The Gombe State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken custody of the suspects, who will face charges related to the murder.

WikkiTimes reports that the university community has been thrown into mourning with many students sending their condolences and prayers for the repose of the soul of their late school mate through the social media especially Facebook.
