Bandits Kill, Abduct Scores in Katsina

Suspected bandits have attacked Danmusa LGA of Katsina State, killing five men and kidnapping an unspecified number of women.

The attack took place around 1:00 pm in Rabilu Tukur of Dan Ali village, according to Daily Trust.

A resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity noted that one of the dead, who serves as a local government staff member, was returning home when he was killed.

“He used his motorcycle for commercial purposes and had conveyed a passenger to Tashar Biri village, and was on his way back when the killers followed him and close to Dan Ali village, they attacked him using a cutlass to hack him to death in broad daylight,” he said.

The resident added that there has been an upsurge in the rate of attacks recently, with the bandits tracing those relocating to Dan Ali village with their cattle.

Also on Friday, in Danmusa LGA of the state, Maidabino village was attacked by bandits, who conducted a house-to-house raid, killing one person and abducting his wife while his animals were taken away.

“What is more frightening is that there are soldiers stationed at Government Day Secondary School in the village and they were alerted during the attack but they did not show up until the terrorists left,” he lamented.

In another attack, bandits attacked Sabon Garin Unguwar Ganau, where several women were kidnapped and three people were killed.

Also, the fighter jet of the Nigerian Army reportedly dispersed terrorists who were said to be accomplices of the bandits in Yar Tsamiyar Jino village in Kankara LGA, wielding weapons.

It was gathered that the bandits had placed a levy of N3 million on the village.

Spokesman for Katsina Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed the attack in Dan Ali, adding that plans are ongoing to curtail the security challenges in the state.

“I cannot disclose the details of the plan, but I assure you that we’re preparing in a combined effort by the state government, the police and other security agencies to deal with the situation,” he said.
